Hardee Senior High School Mission Statement

Our mission at Hardee Senior High School is to prepare individuals/or the challenges of life. Our learning community, comprised of all Hardee Senior High School staff members, students, parents and business partners, will work as a team to enable all students to be contributing, responsible members of our society.

Goal #2: Graduation Rate and Readiness for Postsecondary Education and Employment

Objective: Students will graduate from Hardee Senior High prepared to enter the workforce/postsecondary education.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. All ninth grade students will explore the CHOICES program (career exploration) in the Career Lab.
  2. All seniors will attend South Florida Community College Career Day at the Avon Park campus.
  3. A new vocational program will be available to students this year with the addition of Web Design I and II.
  4. A credit retrieval program will be offered to seniors (before school) missing one credit for graduation.
  5. Saturday School will continue to be offered at least twice a month to give students, who have petitioned the attendance committee, the opportunity to salvage credits that have been denied through excessive absences.
  6. An ESE job coach will instruct students in general employment practice and help secure employment.
  7. Eligible minority students will be met with on an individual basis by counselors to encourage enrollment in DE/AP/Honors courses.

Goal #3: Student Performance

Objective: Students at Hardee Senior High will successfully compete at the highest levels

nationally and internationally and will be prepared to make well-reasoned, thoughtful,

healthy, life-long decisions.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. An Intensive Reading class will be required for all 9th graders scoring in Level I on the 8th grade reading portion of the FCAT.
  2. All 10 graders scoring at Level I in the reading portion of the FCAT will be enrolled in an Intensive Reading course.
  3. All 11th and 12th graders who have not passed the reading portion of the FCAT will be enrolled in an Intensive Reading course,
  4. All 9th graders will be enrolled in a Critical Thinking course which will incorporate FCAT Reading, Writing, and Mathematics skills along with test taking strategies.
  5. Sustained Silent Reading will continue for fifteen minutes a day during an extended second period.
  6. All students that failed the FCAT will have an Academic Improvement Plan outlining the strategies to be used in increasing student performance.

Goal #4: Learning Environment

Objective: Hardee Senior High classrooms will provide a rich and stimulating learning

environment with easy access to reference books, computers, models, and other tools for

learning.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. Teachers will develop a defined system of rules and procedures that are posted and consistently applied in their classrooms.
  2. Teachers will post the driving/essential question for each unit taught in their classrooms.
  3. Examples of high quality work will be displayed in classrooms along with the SSS standards assessed and the rubric used for assessment.
  4. Each department in the school will keep a display of student created academic information on the bulletin boards in the cafeteria.
  5. The administration will continue to add to the availability of computers with internet access for student use.

Goal #5; School Safety and Environment

Objective: The Hardee Senior High community will provide an environment that is drug-free

and protects students' health, safety, and rights.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. A campus camera surveillance system will be installed.
  2. The front lobby will be remodeled for better traffic flow and increased safety.
  3. Visitors will require administrative approval before signing in at the front office. They must fill out a form stating purpose and location, and then they will receive a visitors' pass.
  4. Random drug searches will be conducted by local law enforcement. Administration will continue periodic searches on buses, in classrooms, and student automobiles.        .
  5. A self-contained alternative classroom environment (ACE) will be utilized to decrease the discipline. incidents.
  6. Teachers with second period planning will be assigned supervision areas, discipline duties, or support duties for 30 minutes during the extended period.

Goal #6: Teachers and Staff

Objective: The Hardee Senior High faculty and staff will work to increase the reading, writing, and mathematics performance of students.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. The school will explore and development a new schedule that will involve a six or seven period day which will enable students to have English, math, and science courses all year.
  2. The school will establish an interdepartmental leadership team that will function as an FCAT task force to assist in integrating FCAT skills throughout the curriculum.
  3. A new literacy department will be created consisting of three Intensive Reading teachers and the reading coach. The department will provide support to the rest of the faculty in implementing literacy strategies across the curriculum.
  4. The job description of the reading coach will be evaluated and rewritten to meet the needs of students and faculty.
  5. The administration will provide staff development in critical thinking skills, literacy skills, curriculum mapping, using technology to develop effective lesson plans, and project development.
  6. The school will continue the instructional focus calendar on literacy skills.
  7. The Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies departments wilt continue to develop common comprehensive assessments.

Goal #8: Parental Involvement

Objective: Hardee Senior High School will provide opportunities for involving parents and guardians as active partners in achieving school improvement and educational accountability.

How are you going to accomplish this objective?

  1. The school will continue to display student projects at a project fair held each year.
  2. The school will mail to parents a quarterly newsletter to inform them of upcoming events, school news, and FCAT skills.
  3. Each spring, parents of incoming freshmen will be invited to attend a 9th grade orientation that will provide information on course registration and the overall high school experience.
  4. Advertise School Advisory Council meetings, 9th grade orientation, and project fair on English and Hispanic Radio Stations, as well as Comcast Cable.
  5. A new autodialer phone system has been installed to inform parents of student absences as well as upcoming school events.
